| Just wanted to let you know that I am no longer experiencing the acid response to the sulfur, so it may have been a detox reaction. | Sharon

| Thanks so much for the feedback, John.
I am thinking (imagining?) that I may be seeing an improvement in my symptoms, and that they may be related to MSM. I have increased my intake to 4 grams a day and was worried that I might be overdosing. I am so grateful to see the range you specified is in the normal therapeutic range. I think I will experiment with this for a few days until I get enough feedback from my body to make a decision on how much to take.
I also am very curious as to whether the MSM itself or possible detox effects are causing the acid response.
Thank you again for replying. :)

| Hi Sharon,
I think your questions are very appropriate for this forum.
As I see it, Mel implemented some rules on his site to prevent people from coming here and presenting products or ideas that are unproven and/or potentially harmful. It might be argued that MMS is potentially harmful, but at least Mel has tested it on himself (as he has every product in the protocol) and has every reason to believe that it is in the best interest of his site visitors to try it for themselves.
Mel's focus is safety first; and before we bring it before this community, let us test it until we are convinced of its merits. After all, he already knows firsthand how well his protocol works.
The sulfur (MSM) question is one that currently has me intrigued and somewhat baffled. Some of the claims being made for MSM (especially in regard to biofilms) are being backed with explanations that scientifically leave something to be desired, so the process of trying to separate the wheat from the chaff is taking longer than I had hoped.
I can tell you that biofilms are a profound and highly complex aspect of degenerative illnesses like Morgellons, and it is extremely unlikely that they will prove uniformly susceptible to any single silver bullet such as MSM. However, the facts are there for the taking if we put the right research into place.
Thankfully, that process has begun.
There is no question in my mind that most people are sulfur deficient just as they are magnesium deficient, and I am convinced that MSM offers a wide spectrum of tangible benefits. Furthermore, I am convinced that most people who have tried MSM and found no benefit from it did not take enough.
That said, I am concerned that prolonged megadosing with anything rarely works out well in medicine, whether natural or pharmaceutical. The reason is that all biological systems constantly seek balance. so while short term megadosing may be advisable to correct an imbalance, the goal should always be restoring balance.
Not that your 2,000 mg dose should be characterized as megadosing (the therapeutic dose of MSM for most people is likely 2 to 6 grams). Why are you testing acid since you started taking it? Is it the MSM or is it a result of the detox end products being generated? Interesting questions; I am looking into it and will report back when we get some clarity.
Thanks for sharing your concerns, and please keep us all posted on your progress.
Blessings,
John | Sharon

| Hi... new to the forum. I am taking the Logos Wellness products and having great results with them. I am also trying to maintain an alkaline, whole foods diet.
I have also added 2000 mg of MSM per day to see if it would reduce my symptoms, and have noticed that it makes me very acid... 6.0 - 5.5 both on urine and saliva tests. I am very concerned about that response to the sulfur.
Does anyone have a comment on whether the potential benefits of the sulfur outweigh the risk of such an acid result?
Also, are small amounts of baking soda (1/4 t) in a glass of water, taken to neutralize the acid, harmful if one has no high blood pressure issues?

| Hi Julia,
It was great talking with you and your Mom yesterday during the conference call. I know there is a lot of conflicting information out there on alkalyzing, but it is best to keep it simple.
If we consume the things that our Creator intended for us to eat and drink, and stay away from the so called wisdom of man...(i.e.- fast foods, processed foods, refined sugar and flour, soft drinks, etc.), we will naturally maintain a slightly alkaline pH.
So eat your vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits, greens and yes meats (in moderation)... all organic if possible. Citrus fruits do contain acids, but they have an alkalyzing effect on the body. Sea salt is very beneficial and alkalyzing... minerals in general are.
For more info on the critical importance of maintaining proper pH levels, visit the articles page of the Logos Nutritionals website. | JDB **
1/20/2010 2:05:00 PM | I just began taking the protocal. I wondered if you have a more specific Alkaline diet than what is on the forum. Getting a little overwhemed. Are there any recipes? May be even a chart. I have had acidosis many times. Looking all over the internet for alkaline diets has really left me more confused. I have diffulculty making decisions .May smaller doses of imformation that is very succinct would help. Thank you | | |
