I know I have already written to ask for everyone to give. But God put something on my heart this morning and moved me to share. After the regular Saturday conference call, I had to stop and contemplate.
Any one of us would be anxious, fearful, testy, and probably immobilized if we faced losing our home, no? And so it is safe to say that Mel is wrestling with these same feelings right now as he considers the serious challenge of making rent, right?
But what we heard today was a man filled with the spirit of lifting "us" up. He forged ahead, like always, to try and connect people with information, and to make us laugh. Setting personal difficulty aside, like he does each week, because believes that these calls make a difference for us.
I think many people who benefit here don't fully acknowledge the character this demonstrates. To miss the nobility and leadership in his example is to miss the opportunity to perpetuate character itself. It is missing the opportunity to self heal through the act of caring for the sanctity of the welfare of another.
The great commandment is to "above all else, take care of one another." After 62 years of living asleep to this, I am now awake to it. The forgotten hero in each of you will also wake up if you would just demonstrate it yourself.
Take care of our earthly shepherd and you will heal. Do it right now and wait for the healing to take place. It will. You will not be able to avoid it. God blesses any gift freely given from the heart. My health is proof of this. Faith, without works, however, goes unattended. And so attend to your works, and give.
Sincerely, peter
