Dave 2/16/2010 9:36:47 PM | Hello Mel, And congratulations on your victory. Mel I need clarification on the Bactrim dosage. Regular strength Bactrim is 400mg Sulfamethoxazole and 80mg trimethoprim, and the Double Strength (DS) is 800mg Sulfamethoxazole and 160mg trimethoprim. Your protocol calls for a 500mg DS Bactrim so now I'm totally confused. Here's the description that I find for it. Septra is the Brand Name for Bactrim. :SEPTRA (trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole) is a synthetic antibacterial combination product. Each SEPTRA Tablet contains 80 mg trimethoprim and 400 mg sulfamethoxazole and the inactive ingredients docusate sodium (0.4 mg per tablet), FD&C Red No. 40, magnesium stearate, povidone, and sodium starch glycolate. Each SEPTRA DS (double strength) Tablet contains 160 mg trimethoprim and 800 mg sulfamethoxazole and the inactive ingredients docusate sodium (0.8 mg per tablet), FD&C Red No. 40, magnesium stearate, povidone, and sodium starch glycolate Mel could it be that you're taking regular strength Bactrim ? What does the prescription bottle say about how many mg. they are. Does it say DS anywhere on it? And finally what do they look like are they capsules or pills What color are they and is there any inscription on them? I don't want to take anymore of this particular medicine than I need to. Thank You Very Much, Dave |
