Hi pokys mom,

This is my theory on organic food so far, try to eat fresh, locally, seasonally first (from farmers markets, farmstands, gardens oh my!)
The food is usually grown in your region isnâ t shipped far still retains its nutrients and is produced from small farms that tend to not use many if any pesticides. The farmers may grow better than organic but not afford the USDA certification. Shopping there is also dirt cheap!
Organic food can be grown using manure from very large factory farms! So allot of the heavy metals, and herbicides in the cornfeed, soyfeed, and other antibiotics, and other unknown â garbageâ fed to animals can end up in the organic fertilizer, plus since the animal feed is nutrient deficient, so is in your fertilizer, and veggies! Organic things can come from china. With that said I can taste the difference in an organic vegetable and a conventional one in some cases. Like carrots for instance or green beans or cabbage. It depends on the veggie/ meat. First question is it fresh? Second question is it affordable? Third question Is it local? Fourth question is it organic? I see it in that order or importance.

I have seen old rotted organic broccoli, and fresh conventional broccoli, not good looking organic beef and great looking conventional beef. Haha! Everything is a paradox in this day and age.
If you are budget strapped I believe non-organic conventional veggies are acceptable but wash them. I think non-organic poultry tends to be decent, if your not eating the fatty bits. Most toxins reside in the fat of meat hence the many out-crys over fat being so bad for you. Most Beef today is massively over-hybridized much like our wheat and is slightly allergenic. Opt for conventional lamb whenever possible. Lamb usually has to be pasture raised for part of its life and is less hybridized and not as commercialized a commodity.

If your eating beef I think organic â usuallyâ is the way to go, or get lean conventional cuts. The fattier cuts try to get organic, but fresh whenever possible! Also liver is a healing food and fairly cheap. If your eating fish try getting smaller fish lower on the food chain due to heavy metals and mercury contamination in the really big ones. Learn to love sardines! They have a ridiculous amount of good things in them and tend to be cheap and mercury free.
Try eating less meat but higher quality meat and substitute soaked, homecooked beans and eggs, and lentils. I stay away from pork with a 10 foot pole, mainly due to allot of cultures not eating it or having restrictions on it. Also since they are essentially garbage dump animals.
Organic butter is healing, if you can find raw butter its even more healing. I think the key thing is reduce the money stress eat fresh and local and make the diet work for you have fun with it!

My 2 cents
