It does taste like coffee and seems to have a similar texture and color as well. Good enough reminder for me! I like it a lot too because I have not even added any milk or sweeteners to it either as just the coffee vibe does it for me with that tea. It needs nothing else. |
Mary 5/27/2015 12:14:04 AM | Hi Lara and Peter! Thank you both for your thoughts on the matter of a coffee substitute. Looks like Pero is not in favor with either of you. So, for real coffee... I don't know if I have a blood sugar issue or adrenal issue. Just prior to getting M, Coffee used to make me have an upset stomach. Before that I drank coffee all my life without problem. But, I was having significant reflux months leading up to getting MD. Happily, I haven't had any stomach acid or reflux since starting this protocol. I will ponder the idea of sipping some organic, low acid coffee with almond milk. As for the Dandelion Tea, Peter mentioned, it sounds like a great coffee substitute. However, I believe I have a ragweed allergy, but if Dandelion root is in some of our Logos supplements, I tolerate those well, so maybe I could have the tea. However, due to severe allergic reactions in my past (swelling of lip/tongue/throat)I just don't think I feel like testing myself on that tea. Darn. Though, I hope others will enjoy it if they are missing coffee. Blessings! |
Lara 5/24/2015 1:54:41 AM | Hi Mary, It's a foggy autumn here...while reading your post, I've been enjoying the single cup of coffee I allow myself per day! I'm sure others might disagree and chime in, especially considering the acidity problem, and I understand that. But I eat very healthily, and the one cup helps keep me going because I don't feel I'm depriving myself of every single pleasure. Here's what I've found personally: As long as I stick to 1 cup of organic filter coffee (very important, as the non-organic brands are super-high in heavy metals), I do fine. I add unsweetened organic coconut milk or almond milk (or even a dash of organic milk, preferably raw goat's milk). No sweetening. Some folks use a bit of stevia. Whatever you do, avoid agave syrup. Nasty stuff - you can google the dangers. It helps to have your coffee after breakfast, as your blood sugar will remain stable. I would avoid coffee if I had blood-sugar issues or adrenal issues, which many have. (You'll feel jittery and wired, and it's tough on the adrenals.) As for the barley in Pero, I'd avoid it, as it's a grain/starch. Hope this helps! Blessings and a peaceful week to you. |
