Hi Nancy,

I think you should forgive yourself for being irritable. Others not stricken with disease don't have a clue what you are going through, but we have to forgive them too. You mention that you are not exercising and not meditating right now, so my guess is that those things have an impact on your mood. Trust yourself because you already know what kind of self-care you need.

I have a few suggestions and others may too.

If you have to work a lot of hours, you have a tough schedule, but get as much help as you can. A lot of this is in my prior posts, but I will repeat it. I had a friend who cooked for me when I was really sick. I had no energy to shop and prep food. I told her I would pay her, but she insisted that I just pay it forward. She prepared meals for me for the first 4 months and I feel like she saved my life.

Take care of yourself when feeling the herx symptoms. You will know when you are at your max because you will feel very ill. My symptoms were more like I had swallowed poison, I got dizzy with a terrible headache and nausea, but I rested and after about 1/2 hour, it subsided. Others had a terrible GI tract reaction.

Remember, this is all temporary. Many of you say how the diet is the hardest part. But you CAN do it, because when you get well, you can start adding foods back. Think of it this way - the better you are at sticking with the protocol, the sooner you will get your life back.

Whatever you did in the past to get you through trials will serve you in this fight, too.

None of this is easy. I just had surgery, which others told me horror stories about, and I can honestly say I breezed through it. I think I can take on a lot now. I have a very stressful job, financial problems, and challenging family members who need a lot of my care and support. I can cope because I have already been through hell, l and as I said in my last post, the time went by very fast.

I have so much to be thankful for, so feeling sorry for myself is never an option. Having said that however, anyone reading this who needs counseling or medication to treat an ongoing mental illness, should be reaching out to get the help you need. Many on this site want you to get well. I have a sense that many, many more read the forum than actually post so your messages go out to a large community. Never be afraid to ask for help when you are suffering.

Stay strong!

Ellen
