Hi Rosemary,

You have asked a good question that unfortunately only a doctor can legally answer. That being said, there certainly appears to be a consensus among medical practitioners who recognize that Morgellons exists that there is a fungal component to the disease; if not as an integral part then as an opportunistic coinfection.

Mel's protocol does contain natural antifungals along with other antimicrobials in products such as Candida Rid, Parabolish, Monolaurin, Sovereign Silver, and the soon to be released Immune Pulse, which is designed to be used intermittently along with the Burgstiner Wellness Protocol to stimulate cellular immunity and lower overall infection load.

Prescription antifungals are certainly a viable alternative, although they typically produce stronger side effects. Your doctor will likely monitor your liver and kidneys if you do go that route, and rightfully so.

The best practitioners always prescribe liver support (such as our Liver CS Plus which is part of Mel's protocol) along with anti fungal meds to help the body eliminate the mycotoxins produced in the dieoff of pathogens.

All of these things are aimed at addressing systemic fungal overload, which is almost always present in people who have toenail fungus issues. Interestingly, many such people are found to be vitamin D deficient and/or have heavy metal toxicity (most often mercury) issues.

Some topicals can also be useful such as grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano or eucalyptus oil. Keeping the feet clean and dry is also important.

The easy answer to your question is that everything we eat, drink, breathe and even think can affect recovery from Morgellons or any other chronic illness. The key to vibrant health is restoration of the bioterrain so the body's various organs and systems can go about their business as they were designed to.

As a very wise and loving man (my father - Carson Burgstiner MD) always said, "If you maintain normal physiology, you prevent disease and pathology".

I am relatively new to this whole issue of MD. I have had a toenail fungus for about 8 months and have tried a few things to get rid of it but a few days ago my doctor (who thinks MD is a delusion) prescribed oral lamisil for the toenail fungus (Terbinafine HCL). My question for people on this website is, if I take that medication, will it affect my recovery from Morgellons?
