I have always tried to filter my water via store bought pitchers or faucet attachments. Now a refrigerator. I too worry about the plastic in anything. Not just the bottled water, but the lines in the filters. Not only about the poisons from the plastic but makes for a breeding ground for bacteria.
If I was not so crippled up I would seriously consider boiling water in stainless steel pot and cool it and filter it through a filter.
Also some of water company add fluoride. That is a different nightmare all together.
