10/12/2009 4:46:55 PM | Dear Mel, Your willingness to humble yourself so that others might be inspired provides Hope to a community that desperately needs it. The same source of courage and determination that led you out of this wilderness compels you now to serve others as they follow your lead. Your unconditional love and concern for those fortunate enough to have been gathered here (not by accident)is evidenced by the sacrificial efforts you have consistently made on their behalf. It has truly been a blessing to witness what God is doing in and through your life. Here in the midst of suffering and grief, of fear and condemnation, of rejection and shame, confusion and chaos, His beautiful hands are at work... and His unmistakable fingerprints are all over this labor of love He has laid before you. In his letter to the first century Christian church in Rome, the Apostle Paul described how God uses our responses to the trials of life to transform us into His likeness: "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is." Romans 12:1-2(NLT) These new believers felt isolated, misunderstood and overwhelmed by a world that treated them roughly. They were being persecuted for their faith and tempted to be conformed to (and polluted by) the pagan cultures surrounding them. Paul urged them not to submit to fear and compromise, but to choose transformation... from a self-centered life to one of continuous improvement and service to others. We are at our highest potential as empty vessels, ready and willing to be used for His glory. I'm sure that when you set out to establish this website, you never dreamed of having the kind of dramatic impact you are having in so many lives. It is amazing what can be accomplished with pure motives. You may at the moment be of modest means by the world's standards, but in my eyes (and I suspect in the eyes of God), you are a very wealthy man. Nonetheless, Logos cannot in good conscience continue to accept your money for the privilege of sending you nutritional support for your personal use as needed. And if the world chooses to interpret this as a conflict of interest, then so be it. |
