Hi Jul,

I am new to the protocol so just learning myself, but not new to Stevia. It's an old friend. We've been using it in our family for years, even before it was approved by the FDA and started appearing on grocery store shelves. We've had excellent results and no raised blood sugar or candida issues as a result.

The reason Stevia is good for our protocol diet is not only because it is alkalizing. . . something no other sugar substitute can claim, but because is has virtually no calories or carbohydrates and so does not raise blood sugar. As a result it does not feed the critters!

Stevia is about 200 to 300 times as sweet as table sugar so a little goes a long way. It is not created in a laboratory as are all the other substitutes like Equal and Splenda, but instead it is a natural concentrate from a South American herb. In other words, God created. . . not man created.

Stevia has actually been shown in some tests to LOWER blood sugar and is being looked into as therapeutic for long term use for diabetics, not just for the flavor but for what it can do medicinally. The jury is still out on that but we'll know before long if that proves to be true.

If you want a purer more sugar-like flavor I would suggest using the brand sold in most health food stores and whole foods markets, not the highly touted grocery store brand. Don't know if it's OK to mention brands but we use NuStevia by NuNaturals. The grocery store brand is highly processed and diluted, not a good bargain because it takes a lot more to get the same sweetness, doesn't dissolve as well, and it has a background flavor of vanilla. Not a bad taste but you may not want everything you use it in to taste of vanilla. NuStevia goes much further and is a better deal over-all. You can purchase it onine for a huge savings. The cheapest I found it was at vitacost.com.

I think you can safely enjoy Stevia knowing it is not raising your blood sugar, not feeding the enemy within and actually improving your health. Hope you enjoy that mint-choco shake with no worries! ;-)
