I have a story I'd like to share with you. I have a son who is now 38 yrs old. He is a blessing to the Lord and me !! However, this was not always so.......... We went through the drug route with him. It broke my heart at the time! I prayed and prayed for him. I told my son I would never give up on him no matter how long it took. Of course, at the time, he never listened to me!! Crying myself to sleep at night, telling God remember when he was born, I gave both my children to you. I knew you had blessed me with them and I was supposed to raise them right and teach them about you. I have tried hard to do that. I reminded God that I had asked him to put them on a leash and not let them stray too far, before reeling them back in because they were His !! Eventually, my son was arrested and sent to jail. It was a blessing in disguise!! I could write to him and say all I wanted without him interrupting or leaving !!! All inmates love mail !!! He got put on a wing with other Christian men, who had experienced lots more than he had and shared with him!! He asked for reading materials. Boy, what a blessing, I sent him books about faith, miraculous stories, poems about God, testimonies and a study guide and book to go with his Bible he got from the chaplain. God had put him there for a reason!!! It stopped him from his negative activities, he got the right influence he needed from others. And, God began to deal with him with earnest intention. What would seem like a negative turned out to be the most positive experience for my son!! Isn't God awesome??? My son often says that it was the best thing that ever happened to him and he knew one thing for sure, after being there 1 year, he does not EVER want to go back!! He doesn't know where he would have ended up without God intervening. He changed immediately and is close to God now!!! Praise God The Almighty!!! My prodigal son restored!!! While he was there, you can not give them anything but approved books and cards and letters that are screened. So........when his birthday approached, I felt bad for him. SO, I put my thinking cap on and came up with a special way to celebrate his birthday. I started 4 days before the first day of August, and everyday I sent (mailed) him a birthday card. I wanted him to know how much his family loved him and cared about him!! I bought special ones, ones from the dollar store, serious ones, funny ones, we made some, and everyday for his birthday month he got a birthday card. He said everyone on his wing noticed it and ask him what was going on. He told them He had a great family, and a mama who loved him and would never give up on him. He said they were impressed. This made me think, Do we show our love enough??? And do we show God enough love??? Anyway, I tried to make his B-Day special. AND, that's why I have tried to make Mel's birthday special too!!! By sending one or two poems or songs or thanks his way each week. So here is one more poem for you Mel!!! Happy Birthday Mel Happy Happy Birthday Mel Our friend, our mentor, you are swell !! Especially on your special day, WE give you honor and homage pay. WE wish you every happiness And pray that God will truly bless Your health, your life, and everything That only love and God can bring.
