Morgellons - A sports analogy

Hello everyone,

I wrote a post on a seperate thread regarding trusting the process and thought it might be useful to write an analogy in relation to our healing journeys.

In 2019 Arsenal hired former captain Mikel Arteta as the new manager. The season before the team finished outside of the coveted and lucrative champions league qualifying for the 2nd/3rd season running and despite losing the Europa league final, looked like a team falling into middle table former big club territory. Upon his hiring, Arsenal went through a lengthy run of loses with a few draws, we never saw it this bad, in fact part of the fanbase was wondering if getting relegated would be what the club needed to shake things up. Many were calling for his firing and yet the board stood firm and it was apparent that a new style of football was in it's infancy. Slowly and steadily the teams performances improved.

In relation to Morgellons, often when we are on the path to healing we may feel worse initially. This is part of the healing process and it's why the protocol calls for slow and steady, to not overload the body and detox pathways. And yet some, fearing that the protocol is making them feel even worse may consider stopping, despite the pathway and structure in place, as many Arsenal fans did in those first few seasons of Arteta's tenure.

Whilst the football was improving, the team was hamstrung by a ceiling on player ability, the club had given bloated contracts to failing players and couldn't shift them. He had to make do with the players we had and incredibly, after years of getting hammered by the other big teams, we beat Chelsea in the final of the FA cup. The problem lay not in investment, the Kroenke's who also own the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Rams amongst other teams, clearly have a proven record of bringing success to clubs, but the issue was the stale board that was spending heavily on the wrong players. We went from the removal of a director who was investigated for paying heavily for players represented by one specific agent, to the following football director, giving massive contracts to so so players and preventing any resale value. It wasn't till this year with the Andrea Berta that fans have gone, so this is what a real footballing director does, the difference is night and day.

On the journey of healing, often we seek the help of medical professionals, who despite the best or not intentions, many don't have the expertise to help and prescribe medication that may help in the very short term but ultimately in the long run does more harm than good. It is only after speaking to people like Mel and his extensive knowledge, lived expertise and incredible compassion that it becomes abundantly clear what the path of healing should look like.

Final note, Arsenal finished second three seasons in a row, 1 point off the championship, semi final of the champions league, and still some fans are calling for him to be fired. Can't win them all over and sometimes people just like to complain.
