Hi Everyone, If you've been on the website for any length of time, you've heard Mel say over and again to put cold water on your hair. This treatment not only helps with any of the scalp / hair issues associated with M (lol...Donna...I've now adopted using your way of referring to it),but also promotes hair growth. Mel learned this hair trick back in his modeling days and has shared with all of us that he has been using it for years (and it obviously works judging from his thick head of silver hair). I've been to his house and seen him do his cold water treatment several times and he is almost magically talented at flinging his head under the faucet in his bathroom sink and drenching his hair in cold water and then combing it out without getting even a drop of water anywhere outside the sink...and...he can do the whole thing in the blink of an eye! So...I've used this cold water trick on and off too, and when I've done it on a regular basis have really gotten positive results. However...it's summertime...and living in the South with a house on piers, and all my water lines being pvc pipes, means...turning on the cold water...and it's not even cold. Depending on the time of day, it can almost seem like I've turned on the hot water tap when I turned on the cold. So...what to do? I've done this before but have been slacking off,so I started it back up again today. I thought it might help others who have trouble getting really cold water, so... here's my system. I get an empty gallon plastic jug and fill it up with tap water. That goes into the fridge overnight and then I pour it all into a plastic dishpan. I put the dishpan on top of the dryer because that seems to be a pretty good height for what I'm doing. Then...I bend down and put the top of my head in the ice cold water (then scream a little bit...and whine a lot), and then use a glass to scoop up water from the pan to saturate the rest of my hair. IT IS COLD!!! I'm not as neat as Mel, and I'm way more dramatic with the whole process. I dread it and put it off and usually get water everywhere that I have to clean up too...but that's just me. This could all be done a lot faster and more efficiently...it's just like anything else...I just need to stop dreading it so much and just DO it and not make such a production out of it. It's definitely worth it...I've seen the results...so...I'm back to the icy cold treatment from the fridge until the weather gets cool enough to have cold water come out of the cold water tap. Hope this helps someone else. Love, Karen

Hi Karen, Your post truly truly helped me! Until very recently, I was sporadically using the ice cold water treatment. I felt that I didn't need it. I like you, was not a big fan and I haven't had an issue with my scalp/hair for six months until this past week. I think my issue was because of something I ate and my choice of how I treated the resulting itching on my scalp. I won't go into detail but I lost a good deal of hair which scared me beyond belief. Needless to say, I called Mel. He was shaking that Hockey Stick at me and told me not to put things in my hair or on my scalp like that again. He suggested the cold water treatment and that's exactly what I did. Like Cheryl, I just lean over the sink or tub and pour cold water that has been in the refrigerator. It really does help! If I can, I do this two times a day. The only other treatment that I do occasionally (two times a week) is use a mixture of coconut oil and and essential oil as a conditioner left overnight. As you know, M does not like coconut oil and essential oils. That helped me in the beginning when I had issues and I know cold water is safe. Thank you, Donna

Hi Karen, I read your post to my husband and when he heard the part about the cold water being a trick from Mel's modeling days that promotes hair growth, he decided to start doing it :-) He takes a 16 ounce bottle of cold water out of the refridgerator, opens the shower door, and pours it over his head. Then he towel dries and combs his hair, fills the bottle back up with tap water, and puts it back in the refridgerator for the next morning. I bend over the tub or sink when I pour cold water over my head. I think that actually sticking the top of your head in the cold water is what is making you scream and whine. (Well at least the scream part. Cold water poured over your head might always make you whine a little.) However, sticking your head in the water is probably more effective. Just look at the pictures of your hair. Hee hee hee. Cheryl
