You are making incredible progress, and you are so brave to face down such a lifelong challenge!
Many people do not understand anxiety. Some may think that anxious people just need to be told to "get over it" or "just don't worry." Those of us who have anxieties know just how ineffective that kind of approach is.
I run a bit anxious myself (though some family members might see that as an understatement). The human brain runs on neurotransmitters that are in such delicate balance. Anxiety is an imbalance of these neurotransmitters in one way or another either through heredity or some life event(s) that triggered these kinds of responses. It's not your fault, but it's your problem.
It takes a lot of intelligence to use metacognitive thinking. That means thinking about one's own thinking...figuring out one's own thinking and / or behavior patterns and then determining a plan to address areas of need. It also takes a lot of courage because the manifestation of anxiety is fear, and we all know fear creates irrational responses in all of us.
Facing this plus what we all face with an unrecognized (by the CDC) toxic illness is like a double whammy...but so great for you that you have the courage and intelligence to face it, create a plan to address it, and then employ your plan.
With these kinds of skills and courage you can do anything!
Thanks for sharing this Vanessa...I'm sure you've helped someone else reading this in some way.
Love,
