Wonderful Post Chrissie
Dear Vanessa,

I'm glad you are managing to deal with your anxiety more and more as time goes on. I too suffer from anxiety and have done since childhood,. It got particularly bad when hormones kicked in and I believe and my gut tells me that it will calm down after menopause. Also I feel that as we all get older and especially after going through the wars with many difficulties in life, we begin to learn to change our inner voice. A big part of learning to cope with anxiety is for me, learning to be more gentle on ourselves. This means listening to my inner voice. I have noticed I am a less harsh critic of myself now than I used to be!! :-). But, it's definitely a work in progress and always will be.

I think it's about being able to self soothe oneself, even if we are unhappy that we are anxious at that time. It's about not having judgement of oneself and realizing at that time that we are doing the best we can.

Now all sorts of factors can make anxiety worse, physical ill health, tiredness, lack of water, lack of food, heat, stress, or money worries, health concerns, concerns re others, or others behaviors or even things that just happen out the blue and shock us.

Sometimes also, it's not easy being around others and it can be overwhelming and trigger anxiety too. The trick is (as someone said) to keep breathing, Try and ground yourself. And to recuperate afterwards, have a Epsom salt bath with lavender oil and a chamomile tea (with two teabags extra strong).

And I just love Third Day, Revelations album, it's my go too album to cheer me up. Well I put it on with my speaker on and oh boy do I sing!!!!! I sing and I sing and I sing until the sadness, or fear or anxiety goes away and until I feel my spirit soar beyond the fear.
And lemon is a natural anti depressant, so I will have a nice drink with fizzy stevia water and fresh lemon juice and it's very cheering to me.

Failing that I fling a toy up into the air and dance around with my dog. Or we go outside for a wee walk, then sit together, with my arm around her back, we sit content and we both smile. I look into her gold colored eyes and I pat her soft spaniel ears and I live in that moment... She helps me to do that,to realize that all we have is the now.

The past is gone, the future doesn't exist, all we have is what exists now. And I am learning to appreciate the small moments of good things, simple things. It's the little simple things that help.

What little things can you do for yourself or do you like doing when you are struggling.

I realise now it's not so much the anxiety but how i deal with it. I was anxious earlier today and it affected me for a while, but I let it go as soon as I could. In the past I would hold on to it, like a large uncomfortable suitcase I was lugging around. But the way I see it now, I don't know how long I will have on this earth, none of us do. You know we could leave it tomorrow, I doubt it, but you know what I mean.

I watched a you tuber for five months recently and she had terminal cancer. She was only 24, had suffered cancer seven years and fought admirably. Well she loved life so much despite chemo, radiotherapy, losing her hair etc etc.. She clung on to every positive bit of life she could, she got every last bit of life she could until she passed away.

I cried a lot and prayed for her but I know she's an angel now and she will shine sooo brightly in heaven as she did on earth.

When I am down now or anxious or sad I say to myself, 'what would Emily do,' and that is her legacy!! She helped many people to see the beauty in life despite difficulties.

Well anytime Emily fell, she got up and she fought it, she never gave up, she loved life even with the hardships.

And that is what I am trying to do now....Trying to not focus on what I don't like but what I do like. And the good stuff helps balance out the anxiety. It is always a work in progress, we are none of us perfect and we should not expect ourselves to be.

So, remember Vanessa, next time you are anxious just be loving to yourself as you are doing your best. And get the Revelations album and sing your heart out!!!!! :-)
And if you ever want to talk, I'm here, give me your number through Mel

Love Chrissie
