I can totally relate to how you feel in regards to your social anxiety. I also have this and it was especially worse in office settings. I no longer work in an office, but when I did, I really HATED when there would be a meeting and they would go around the room for introductions. Recently I did have to go into a meeting, for the first time in about 8 years, and when it came time for the introductions I was very nervous. I think it has a lot to do with the anticipation, waiting for your turn. The whole time everyone else is giving their introduction, I'm not really paying attention because I'm preparing for my own. But at that meeting when I got nervous, I did call on the Holy Spirit and did feel calmer. At the time I kept telling myself that God was with me. I recently have started having anxiety about driving. I've been driving for about 30 years now, but since I've been working from home, I very seldom have had to get onto the highway to go anywhere. Whenever my husband I go on the highway, he's the one that's driving. But then it got to the point that I would have anxiety even when he was driving, and I had to have him get off the highway. Today my husband needed to drop off one of our cars at the shop for the brakes to be repaired and needed me to follow him so that he would have a ride home. I wasn't thinking about my driving anxiety because I'm usually okay driving on the streets in our suburb. However, as soon as we got out of the residential area and got onto one of the main roads I started having anxiety and had to pull over. I honked the horn and fortunately he heard me and pulled over too. Before I had the anxiety, I wasn't even thinking about my driving fears, it was weird how it appeared out of nowhere. All of a sudden I started thinking that I was feeling very sleepy and that I was going to fall asleep driving. I soon realized that I wasn't feeling sleepy, but light-headed and dizzy because of the anxiety. I hope I get over this fear. For now I'm not too worried about it since I work at home and my husband can drive me places. I think it does have something to do with this affliction, like it somehow amplifies our fear, and also holds onto it longer. Anna | |||
