I am so glad that you've asked! So, carbs will break down into sugar when digested, so it's super important that you stay as far away from carbs as you can, especially in the early months. There are a few exceptions to the rule, and one is sweet potatoes. I would'nt recommend eating them daily (although I wish!) right now I get by with two sweet potatoes a week, maybe three at the very most. As for the brown rice, I only eat organic brown rice once every three to four weeks. I have now been on Mel's protocol for almost 11 months, but I'd rather be slow in adding certain foods than it be too soon. I'm finally able to eat blueberries daily & pineapple in a small amount occasionally. I'm in no way 100% perfect with my diet all the time, but I try! I thank God for all the amazing recipes and food ideas on this site!! I know that everyone is always different in so many ways, but I hope this helps you, and don't ever be afraid to ask!
