Contest Entry I know we are all super busy, but these last few weeks have been like a whirlwind between 4 soccer games per week in the evening between 2 kids, gymnastics for a third kid over the weekends, a camping trip with Y-Guides (my son and I), and a weeklong work trip to Nashville that wore me out. Thankfully I’m using this weekend to rest and catch up while my kids and wife are in Michigan for a wedding shower my wife is helping to throw for her nephew’s fiancé. We passed each other in the airport. That leads me to the importance of finding a balance between different aspects of your life. We all need to find a balance between work, social life, rest, health, and ultimately taking care of ourselves in the process. Mel told me he didn’t care what I wrote about in the contest, as long if it was positive. He said I could even write about an ice cream maker. Well it turns out I do have an ice cream maker I would like to write about. Before I got sick like Mel, I loved eating Haagen Daaz ice cream. Either coffee or plain vanilla would be my go-to flavors. Ice cream has always been one of my favorite foods to indulge in. I came by it naturally. My Grandaddy (Mom’s Dad) had a bowl most evenings. Now thankfully given the knowledge we have obtained in this community we know that is not a healthy habit to have. When I was growing up we would also make homemade ice cream in the summer at my grandparents house with fresh ripe sweet peaches my Uncle and Aunt would bring from Georgia on their way up from Florida. Sometimes chocolate would also be made. Those were great memories. Not long before I got sick I had purchased a homemade ice cream maker because I wanted to relive those memories and make new ones with my kids. Unfortunately I never got a chance to use it and I can’t have ice cream now. It is packed away at the top of a closet. We did at least unbox it when we moved in. Back to the balance. With the balance we get following Mel’s sum of the parts: Coaching, Water, Diet, Calm Mind, Sleep, Sunshine, WPS, and the rest of the community aspects to follow, listen, and participate with including Great 8, Prayer & Fellowship, Exercise, Community, Robert Scott Bell, John B. and Logos Nutritional’s Supplements, Cathee, and Sovereign Silver I am confident that eventually I will be able to use that ice cream maker on occasion. As one of my favorite songs says, I’m fighting a battle you’ve already won, no matter what comes my way, I will overcome, don’t know what you’re doing, but I know what you’ve done. I’m fighting a battle, you’ve already won. When the sea is raging, you’re spirit is my help. He’ll fix my eyes on Jesus Christ, I’ll say that it is well. Oh I know that it is well. I know how the story ends, we will be with you again. No more fear in live or death. That song is (You’ve Already Won by Shane & Shane.) So remember to always have hope, we will be healed. And I’m looking forward to that ice cream one day. Dale

SONNY & GIZMO, THE MOST ADORABLE EAGLETS Since March of this year, 2025, I've been watching the Friends of Big Bear Valley Eagle Cam, on YouTube. The beautiful bald eagle parents, who make this nest their home, are Jackie and Shadow. Jackie is the female bald eagle. Shadow is the male. I've read that bald eagles usually mate for life, but Jackie used to be Mrs. BB, and her mate used to be Mr. BB. However, Shadow, a young male bald eagle at the time, who didn't even have his white head feathers yet, fell so hard for Mrs. BB that he ran Mr. BB plumb off. Now, Mrs. BB is called Jackie, and Shadow is her mate. That's a great thing really, because they make a fantastic pair! Jackie and Shadow had some new eaglets that hatched in March. Initially, 3 teensy, tiny eaglets were born, but 1 didn't survive. The 2 that did survive are the most adorable pair of eaglets that I ever could see. Their names are Sunny and Gizmo. It has been such a pleasure watching them grow! As I said before, Sunny and Gizmo were such teensy, tiny little eaglets when they hatched. Now they are almost ready to fledge. Fledge means the first flight out of the nest tree by a grown eaglet. Eaglets grow very fast. It only takes 10-13 weeks from hatch to fledge. Then, a bald eagle will not begin getting white head feathers until usually 4-5 years old. They will find a mate and have their own nest, before all of their white head feathers come in. (Hence, why Shadow did not have his white head feathers yet, when he fell for the previous Mrs. BB.) If you are wondering why Sunny and Gizmo are the most adorable pair of eaglets I ever could see, they are so sweet to each other and get along so well. They are also nice to their parents, Jackie and Shadow, and get along well with them. Neither Sunny nor Gizmo bite or get aggressive with each other, or their parents. I assure you that eaglets acting sweet towards a sibling or nice to their parents isn't always the case. Some eaglets peck (bonk) a lot and bite, and think nothing about it. But Sunny and Gizmo will lie down in the nest, cuddled together. They'll look out over the sticks surrounding it, at the big, beautiful world that is just waiting for them beyond the nest. They like to play together in the nest at times, with dried grass and sticks. They flap their wings some each day to strengthen them. One will often watch the other as they are exercising their wings. Pretty soon those wings will be strong enough to fly them right out of that nest! The nest has become very small as Sunny and Gizmo have grown, but they always seem to enjoy each other's company, in spite of not having much room. They always seem to be so glad that the other one is there. I know there are a lot of challenges ahead for Sunny and Gizmo. These 2 beautiful, amazing bald eaglets who will be fledging soon, will be on their own not too long after. I watch Sunny and Gizmo, and hope for the very best for them. I hope they're healthy, happy, and soaring through the blue sky for many, many years to come. Cheryl
