Nicholas 12/18/2018 7:50:50 AM | Hi Karen, Thanks for the info on pineapples . I was thinking they were alkaline so they were safe . I love the trail mix suggestion also. It's a great idea to make some and go for a walk in nature to help reduce stress. Also, I made the Red and Green salad tonight and it was awesome . I kept calling it Christmas salad! Karen 12/17/2018 9:10:43 AM | Hi Nick, I loved your post with all the food tips...great info. However...I'd like to offer one little tweak. Lose the pineapple. It's full of sugar. I know there is an old post touting the merits of pineapple, but that was before we all understood how important it is to limit sugar. Blue berries, strawberries, black berries, and cranberries are all fruits that we can eventually eat in moderation. Look up the net carbs for each, and watch the amounts...as in how many net carbs per serving, and how big is a serving. Don't even eat these every day when you start adding them...spread it out a little, but you can eventually increase as you see how you react. If you are just getting started, stick with just lemon or lime as your only fruits. After a while, try some of the above mentioned berries. As per cost...cranberries are pretty reasonable. Just wash them very well...soak them in vinegar water and then rinse away the vinegar. That will help remove any pesticides that may be on them. You're right...organic is expensive, but that little trick Mel shared with us (vinegar) will help a lot to keep costs down. I'm loving cranberries with some stevia and pecans. It's like my own trail mix. I also think it would be really good to mix some big flaked coconut with it, but I haven't tried it yet. Thanks so much for posting. Everyone in our community thinks so much of you. We can all tell what a great guy you are and what a great dad. Mel really enjoyed the fact that your son joined in singing the happy birthday song too. He sounds like a great little boy! We are all so happy that you're improving. You will definitely get to the finish line. Love, Karen | |||
