Hello,

Don’t miss this! Take the time to watch André Rieu’s directing of the Johann Strauss Orchestra in playing Sir Anthony Hopkins’ “And the Waltz Goes On”.

The words lilting, melancholy, hopeful, exuberant, joyful, carefree, playful, and hauntingly beautiful inadequately describe the soul stirring performance of Sir Anthony Hopkins’ “And the Waltz Goes On”. Hopkins, born in 1937 in Wales, on New Year’s Eve, was present to experience the first public performance, in a castle in Vienna, directed by world renowned Dutch violinist and director André Rieu.

The piece was written in 1964, but Hopkins even at the age of 19 desired that the waltz would continue as a music genre. Hopkins quietly hoped that Rieu would someday accept the waltz as a piece for the orchestra to perform. Imagine Hopkins’ immense surprise when Rieu called, expressing great interest in the piece. Hopkins’ wife had sent the score to Rieu without Hopkins’ knowledge! In April 2011, Hopkins flew to Holland to visit Rieu in his home to hear the recording of the orchestra’s practice run through of the piece.

Rieu honored Hopkins’ by naming his album “And the Waltz Goes On”. It can be found on Amazon and other sites.

Sir Anthony Hopkins starred in over 100 films. He received a Golden Globe Award in 2006, the British Academy of Film & Television Award in 2008, and Oscar for his role in “Silence of the Lambs”. He was Knighted in 1993.

Enjoy,
Nuthatch
