I have the clicking/popping sound too and it happens whenever I pull a white egg like thing from my face and/or hands. I've had sores around my nostrils, in between my eyes and around my mouth and was wondering if that's because there is a lot of whatever they are in my sinuses? I hate that you are experiencing this on your scalp and didn't realize others were as well. I don't feel quite so much like a freak! ;)
I've found that coconut oil is very helpful. There are several oils I've tried and tea tree is definitely one to add into your shampoo regimen. The coconut oil helps to suffocate and kill them. I've also found very very cold water makes them appear whiter than the skin itself and it's easier to see them and pull them out.
