Maria, thanks for your concern and information, I've tried to talk to landlord about this situation and they saying everything but mold and what they say is in the same family as mold.

I've tried to get the City to test but they saying I need proof that I'm sick.

I thank God that I don't have a home just an apartment to move out of. I'm looking for one now.

I did have and air purifier and Ozone but it's not enough.

I just want out so I can sleep a little longer because breathing this stuff at night and I believe I do is hindering some must needed sleep

Hello Everyone and Welcome,

Maria,I was reluctant to post your first post because You made it sound so easy and in all my experience I would feel compelled to say your family was lucky it was as easy as you made it sound.

I have asked others for their opinions with mixed results, therefor we shall make mold the topic of our next coffee tea with me next Saturday October 19.

I hope maria you will join us then.I will also invite others who have had experience with mold.

Please do not misunderstand, Mold is extremely Dangerous, and
the better educated we are can only help us as a community.

God bless you all,
Mel

Hi again,

We keep the humidity level in our home below 50% at all times.

We have a large basement de-humidifier running in the finished basement, and we have two more running, in the unfinished basement, full time.

This ensures no mold will grow back. De-humidifiers are a must for any damp or not well-ventilated spaces.

It is vital to determine what is the cause of the mold..where it is coming from. Our mold situation developed, we surmise, because we delayed in getting our automatic garage doors fixed, which led to garage always being shut during the hot, humid summer months, then a damp armchair was stored in the garage, and most likely that started things...

there was too little ventilation and too much humidity in the garage/basement area...and while the amount of mold that grew while we were away on a trip was small, it was enough to make me very ill.

While we had mold coverage on our home insurance, they denied us any coverage..we don't have the best insurance company, and most of the things that cause mold were not covered by them. So we spent a lot of money, and never got anything from the insurance. I am still paying the medical bills.

Landlords are required to eradicate mold--it is a known health hazard.

Mary, I urge you to persist in asking your landlord to test for it and treat it. Also, it may be there are others in your building who have mold-associated illnesses, as well. You could ask the other tenants, and that would strengthen your case with the landlord.

I had a bad landlord many years ago who refused to do anything about the holes in my house's foundation, which was allowing rats and other wild animals to enter into the house. I finally got the town involved, and the landlord was forced to do resolve the issue Fortunately, we found eventually another place that was in good condition.

Freddie, since you cannot move, I would invest in de-humidifiers to dry your home--those are not too expensive--and also look into professional mold tests and remediation treatments. Prices vary dramatically.

The main thing is to figure out why the mold is occurring in the first place..then address those issues so that the mold, once eradicated, does not come back. If you don't have enough ventilation, then that will need to be fixed. If you have any pipes leaking, or some other water or dampness source, that will need to be fixed. It's not an insurmountable obstacle...yes, it does mean spending some money, but your life and your health must come first.

We went into debt to fix our house, and are now slowly digging our way out...watching our pennies these days.

Keeping you all in my thoughts, and I hope to make it to the prayer call this weekend!

I miss hearing your voices!

love, Maria
