Love does this too and working on stress levels. I was watching a TED talk about epigenetics and even though we are born with certain genetic characteristics or predisposition for certain character traits or illnesses certain things can change the outcome of our immunity. Epigeneticists discovered that monkeys reared by affectionate mother monkeys, not their birth mother changed dna responses to life, stress and they had good health generally, irrespective of original genetic make up. The nurture they received helped them cope emotionally and physically the rest of their lives, it wasn't their genetic make up, the nurture changed their genetics. The scientists discovered the same in humans cells, the cells change after prolonged stress. Or the cells heal in loving, helpful surroundings. Whether it's spiritual help or/and emotional support or even just a simple shift in attitude, like you say from focusing on the disease to imagining oneself well or never losing hope. Yes, it's all food for thought. Other epigeneticicists have discovered how many of the drugs that mainstream medicine hands out to, "cure," humans and animals don't cure, they skim the surface, alleviate symptoms sometimes but often create bigger malfunctions elsewhere. So, our medicines have to be healing and loving also and holistic and see the whole person. It's a shame that in modern society everything is broken down into parts to analyse, whereas as you say we are all a mind, body and spirit all linked, all needing to work together in synergy to be healed. |
