I don’t really remember a specific one that stands out other than maybe getting battery-operated cars that my sister and I were able to ride on trails through the woods in our back yard. The best memories I have of my Christmases were when I was a kid and my Grandparents and all Uncles and Aunts were still living. I remember on Christmas Eve my Mother would make peanut butter balls, Chex mix, haystacks, cookies, peanut butter delight (no bake cookies), individual cherry cheesecakes, and other goodies. It was a delicious time of year for sure. We would go visit my great Uncles and Aunts and take goodies to each one. They would give us chocolate chess pie, buttermilk pie, or pecan pie in return. We would usually go to Church to the Christmas Eve Candlelight service in the evening to celebrate the real reason for the season, Jesus’ Birth. We were able to open one present on Christmas Eve. Then in the morning we got to see what Santa brought us. After enjoying Christmas morning with my sister and parents and showing our neighbor friends what we got for Christmas for a little while, we packed up and went to my Father’s parents house and celebrated Christmas there. Then later that day or sometimes the day after Christmas we went over to my Mother’s parents house and celebrated Christmas there. There was always a lot of laughing and fun times catching up with lots of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. I miss those times. After my Grandparents passed away it was never the same as each family got larger and started traditions of their own with their kids and their own Grandkids. I guess that’s what happens when time marches on. Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you all enjoy! |
