One day, someone reached into my backpack, took out my English workbook, ripped out every page, and left a note saying I needed to be taught a lesson. I remember people laughing that day and there was a lot of ripped paper on the floor.
Days later I opened my workbook and read the note. I was embarrassed and never told anyone. I didn't ask for an extension. I just knew I had a week to redo an entire year's worth of work. So I did and barely passed the course.
I still had to keep going back to the classroom. It was the violation that hurt more than anything.
It was a complete surprise a few years to graduate top of my class and receive a scholarship because of my grades. I wasn't aiming for either one. It wasn't even on my radar. At the time I was just trying to get through high school one assignment at a time. Looking back, I wonder if that setback was a gift.
I'm not sure I have any great wisdom about it. Just stay positive and not take things personally and keep moving. Things we are dealing with right now could be setting us up for something big and beautiful to come. This could be the training that helps us help others more than we could ever imagine.
I'd love to hear from others.
