Hello Nick...we are so glad to have you!

I've read many posts on this site over the last couple of years, but I have to say, this one made me break down and cry more than anything else I've ever read. It's obvious that each and every decision you've made has been in the best interests of your precious little boy. You are obviously a selfless person and a wonderful parent, and he's very lucky to have you in his life. Nothing can replace the love you project to him each and every day whether you touch him or not.

I know it's hard not to hug him especially when he's flinging himself into you like a projectile missile to run up and hug you (which is what they all do at this age...and it's just SO sweet). But...I've been around many children for many years, and I can say that one of the dearest things to a little boy's heart is play. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know, but do remember that just playing with him will perpetuate that bond you have that is obviously already well in place from long before you got sick.

Board games...outside play...imaginative play (making things out of boxes or just making inanimate items "talk" are all things that will entertain him). Reading to him is huge...and this is coming from a teacher...I cannot stress the importance of this...and just talking to him about anything and everything and explaining how the world works and what words mean is just as important. My grand kids like the stories I make up...and they can be across the room or in the backseat or across the table and still listen and be entertained. I've made up so many silly stories that that's actually become their favorite thing we do together. It all started with a throw away toy...a small blow up "Bozo" punching bag (about 12 inches tall) that I grabbed to be one of the "men" on my "team" when we were playing "war" and I was given only a few broken soldiers with broken legs and no weapons. I told my grandson that I was left with a bunch of "do nothings" when he had a huge army, navy, and air force. That made him laugh so hard and even harder as he proceeded to demolish my "team" of broken plastic figures and ineffective stuffed animals. That's when I picked up the little "Bozo" and made him an "airplane" out of a shoe box and made him "fly" around while laughing maniacally. That made both of us laugh so hard our sides hurt as he was chasing me around trying to get my "flying Bozo" for his "team."

After that I started making up "Bozo" stories that have gotten crazier and crazier over the last year and have titles ranging from "Bozo goes to Boot Camp" to "Bozo and the Big Shoe and Bow Tie Banquet"...though Bozo had to go to "Charm School" in another episode before attending the banquet.

Ok...that was a really long explanation for ways to continue to connect with a six year old without touching him, but...I just wanted you to know there are lots of ways you can still be VERY connected in his life and continue to project your love while you're going through this.

If you're uncomfortable with getting too close at this point, then spray yourself down with Kleen Green and wear latex gloves. Don't despair...you'll be able to maintain your connection with him through this rough part and then you can lighten up on the precautions when you start getting better.

God has sent you to this place, and in this place you will restore your health. Your love for your son will give you the courage and fortitude to do the things you need to do to get to the finish line, and you will.

I know how terrifying it can be to be around people at first...especially loved ones, when you're worried about contagion. My doctor says there's no evidence of contagion, but I think being careful is still very important...especially until you start getting better.

Drinking the lemonade cleanse will help with your skin expression, and that might make you feel more comfortable around your little boy. I've been drinking it all day long lately, and it really helps so much with overall symptoms.

My prayers are with you and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Hang in there Nick...it'll get better...there IS hope and there IS light in your future for both you and your little family.

Love,

Karen
