Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all the beautiful prayers and readings on Sunday. Thank you Donald for putting the prayer that you prayed Sunday on the forum.

St. Nick asked that I put on the forum the scripture in the Bible where Jesus converts a centurion.

This is the reflection that I read on Sunday:

We hear the tragedy unfold in Luke's Passion narrative. Jesus is abused by the council of elders, denied by Peter, whipped by Roman soldiers and condemned to death by Pilate. But what else do we see? Jesus heals someone who came to arrest him, forgives his torturers, promises a repentant man paradise and - by His loving endurance - converts a centurion at the foot of the cross. Jesus is both Redeemer of the World and Suffering Servant. In taking on the mantle of Messiah, Jesus does not only receive our praise and our accolades, but He bears our burdens and sins and does so with the deepest love. He may go about our salvation in a paradoxical way, but He is dearer to our own suffering hearts for it. This week, we remember that no sorrow of our own is beyond the reach of the compassion of God.

Again, this reflection refers to the book of Luke. Where Jesus converts the centurion can be found in Luke 23: 44-49:

The Death of Jesus. 44 It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon 45 because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. 46 Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last. 47 The centurion who witnessed what had happened glorified God and said, “This man was innocent beyond doubt.” 48 When all the people who had gathered for this spectacle saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts; 49 but all his acquaintances stood at a distance, including the women who had followed him from Galilee and saw these events.

I pray this Holy week for everyone to feel and know the love, grace and mercy of our Lord. It is by His death and resurrection, we have been set free.

Happy Easter!

Love,

Donna
