Hi Chrissie,

This is a great thread and you and I are DEFINITELY on the same page!

I've watched all the ones you mentioned and loved loved loved them. I'm so glad you mentioned these because it's been a while since I watched them and now they'll be fun to go back and watch again!

I've watched so many series on both Netflix and Amazon Prime over the years that I sometimes forget what I've watched...but the latest one I watched is always my favorite.

I even love to venture out and watch series from other countries in other languages, and I've discovered that Latin series have a LOT of episodes.

Case in point...a couple of years ago, I got totally drawn into a Netflix series called La Esclava Blanca. It was SO good and I just couldn't stop watching it. I'm really not as lazy as all my posts about watching Netflix, etc. seem to indicate, but when I started watching this series...I did become a total slug.

When one episode ends on any of these series, there will be a pause before the next one...and it will say..."next episode in six seconds," etc. However...I got so drawn into watching La Esclava Blanca, that I couldn't even wait the six seconds...I'd hit "enter" in less than one second so I could keep on watching.

It's easy to talk yourself into just "one more episode" when they end on cliff hangers. Well...that's what I did one night in particular...and it was a work night...and I ended up watching so many that I looked up and realized it was time to go to work...it was the next day!

Being used to series made in the US or UK, I never realized that some series made in other countries had SO many episodes. I was delighted! I'd hit the mother lode! There were 61 episodes in La Esclava Blanca!

But...that had been a couple of years ago. I recently started watching a new series on Netflix called "Celia." It's about a Latin singer from Cuba in the 1950's. It's based on a real person...Celia Cruz, and it's SUCH a good series. Like La Esclava Blanca, it's in Spanish with English subtitles, so, there's no getting up and doing things when this is on...I'm glued to the tv...or my laptop watching so I don't miss a word.

I found myself watching episode after episode and not having the discipline to get up and turn it OFF. It wasn't until around Episode 31 that I decided to check and see how many episodes there are in all in "Celia"...and it turns out there are 80!

I'd already gone down for the dive though...and I got so worthless yesterday that I texted my daughter and told her that the family was going to have to come to my house and do an intervention and take away all of my tvs and laptops so I couldn't watch this anymore...otherwise I was going to turn into a catatonic mass of protoplasm sitting in my chair in front of the tv saying..."just one more episode"...

All of this might look like someone who needs to get a life...but those of you who are reading this know that getting a life too far away from where we can take our supplements, and do all of the "sum of the parts" isn't always practical. I do work...and work two jobs...so...I'm not totally worthless though all of the above might indicate otherwise.

So...when I'm home, having these diversions like an interesting series to watch on Netflix or Amazon Prime is a life saver. I live alone, and that's a mixed blessing. I'm extremely grateful that I don't have to explain this disease or what I have to do to get well to someone else who might not understand...but it does get lonely sometimes when one has to stay so isolated to keep the ball rolling toward wellness. My social life since getting sick has gone down considerably, and even though it's my current reality, I'm not really all that worried about it. I figure I'll go out and have fun again once I get well...but for now...it's tv time!

So...to all out there reading this. Find a diversion...take yourself out of your head...because it can be scary in there hanging out with the kinds of thoughts about this disease that we sometimes can't help. If we fall prey to constant scared thinking, we'll allow cortizol to flourish and that is NOT GOOD. This disease loves cortizol and seems to thrive on it.

I hope everyone jumps in this thread and contributes any ideas at all about things to do to get our minds off of our worries. When we can stop worrying and push forward with the "sum of the parts" we can and will get well!

Love,

Karen
