Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to continue to contribute to the "entertainment" thread because I think it's such a good idea to get recommendations for great diversions.

I drive many miles each day, so I have a membership with Audible.com. Audible is a website where you can pay a monthly membership to buy recorded books at discount rates. It's been a great diversion for me over the years, and I can get so involved in listening to a book that I sometimes don't even realize I've driven so many miles.

It's not real expensive...but...an even cheaper way to get audible or recorded books is your public library. Before audible, I'd go to my library and check out books on cd's...and that was F-R-E-E! Recorded or audible books are a great way to have "company" when you're doing mundane tasks like driving or housework which are not mentally challenging enough to keep your mind off the disease. These will entertain and distract you!

As mentioned in an earlier post on another thread...one of my favorite authors is James Lee Burke...and if you get any of his books on audible, make sure to get the ones narrated by Will Patton. I've gotten just about as picky about the narrator as the actual plot of the book. I want both to be good , or I won't buy. Someone asked me which James Lee Burke books were my favorites, and I'd have to say the Dave Robicheaux series. There are several books in this series and I just love them because they are such good stories. There is violence and language in them...but...the overriding message is more about human connection and character development...and I love love love JLB's prose and descriptions...especially those read by Will Patton.

Here are some of my other favorite authors from audible...and I have multiple books by each of these authors...and all are good or I wouldn't list the author:

Rosamunde Pilcher
Lucinda Riley
Rhys Bowen
Belinda Alexandra
Julie Klassen
Kimberley Freeman
Lynn Austin
John Grisham
Ken Follett
Carolyn Brown
Marie Bostwick
Francine Rivers
Tracy Rees
Tessa Afshar
James Patteron
Greg Iles
David Johnson
Lisa Wingate
Kate Morton
Sandra Brown
Kurt Vonnegut
Harper Lee (naturally...lol...could I even consider not listing Harper???)

There are more, but the above list is probably already overwhelming. Suffice it to say, I've been an audible member for a few years...and I LOVE a good story...whether it's a tv show, a movie, a book, an audible book, or somebody just telling me a story. To me, that's great entertainment!

Love,

Karen
