I have been washing and soaking with MMS but washing with detergent first.
The new HE washers do not have an override when it comes to them regulating the amount of water used in washing a load of clothes. I try to get around that by putting in the clothes, adding hot water to them from the faucet to make them heavy as possible, and then washing them on the Bulky cycle with the fabric softner button pushed, which allows for more water.
Unfortunately, the clothes have to be added first for the machine to allow for much water to go into the tub. Therefore, I mix up the MMS and Citric Acid and add water to that in a cup. Then I take a plastic bowl and keep filling it with hot water with a little MMS from the cup (to avoid spotting my clothes) and pour it in the washer once the washer has filled up enough with water to cover the clothes. Then I let it agitate a few minutes and put the machine on pause and let the clothes soak.
You have to be sure to close the lid when you put the machine on pause or this smart computerized washer will think you just forgot you were washing clothes and drain the water out of the machine on its own after a few minutes.
I hope this might help someone who is dealing with one of these machines.
