7/26/2017 1:04:09 PM | Hi Cheryl - I hope that u and your niece get a chance to watch it "what the health" and thanks for your kind comment here and other places. I am going to write a better review of the doc later (because seriously it seemed like the guy completely copied ty bollinger's series - I kept thinking "copy cat" and what the health seemed to copy th in the way he filmed and interviewed doctors - except in "what the health" they had a bigger budget - bigger camera - and less doctors who also seemed in tandem with The author - where as ty had many doctors who were not necessarily working with him - ty did raw interviews and stuff And the what the health doc also had error and mis-referenced past studies that did not apply) And again - I encourage everyone who watches this to remember that they(what the health) refer to studies about "processed meats" and then use that to apply to all meats. This is wrong - and it means that the "one man's meat" article does not necessarily apply here.... ya know ;) And i do need to sit and write a few better notes (but getting ready to go back to work next month and trying to finish many projects as my life will be changing drastically - woo hoo - pretty excited to try working again) anyhow - research is in my background and even if certain peer reviewed studies have certain findings - it still does not mean that those will "generalize" or apply to all people - so we "always" also ask "who were the participants and what were other factors" in the study - But in the case of this documentary - we cannot even do that because he uses studies about "processed meats" to refer to all meat eating. It is like using study findings about a Porsche Roadster and saying those findings apply to all cars - when the findings will not even apply to all Porsche's - only the Roadster and than likely only the conditions in the study - it gets complicated but it is also an easy checklist and helps keep scientific research robust - Do you see the problem with using info from a study about "chemical filled lunchmeats and other processed meats" to apply to all meat - ? Meat that has been processed and corrupted with additives is bad - nitrites and nitrates and numerous other things - this has been known since at least the 1970s- some say since the 50s -'but has been manuevered around as data are twisted and new formulas sneak in - and then sometimes the FDA keeps approving chemicals viewed as "mostly safe" (which includes xylitol - which is chemically processed and has led to tumor grist in every rat) and this mostly safe is scary -- Anyhow - my point is that in "what the health" - the author casually refers to "all meat" with findings from studies about processed meat and this is wrong. trust me - I can see why the documentary seems like it is going against "the man" or comes across as "robust" and credible for what is needed to support real health - when he challenges the cancer society it seems like "right on" but any doctor that approves sugar consumption in sick people is a doctor in delusion . - Further - I disagree with the way they described the scientific processes that sugar and high carbs has in the blood (well I don't just disagree - the literature doesn't support what they suggest and the hand-selected doctors he prepped for his show - they might really believe that lie - but it is biased and can't be fully supported- but then again - sometimes you can twist the research findings and make a case for any point - just like some folks twist the word of God and take bible verses out to promote materialism - prosperity- etc.) so this is why we always double check stuff and this is why we have standards for robustness in research - And so while there are some nice "surface" takeaways from this documentary - I humbly believe it lacks credibility and validity and robustness and it comes across more authoritative and sound than it really is. Thanks for letting me share that. Seriously - I hope this is received in a gentle spirit and we are all learning together here as the truth is sometimes buried. Peace and grace to all |
