Hi Liz,
My heart breaks for you. You are not a failure. I do understand the hurt when someone doesn't believe you, because it has happened to all of us. I am fortunate that my immediate family believes me but they are having a difficult time accepting some of it.
I am Catholic too and as much as it pained me, I missed mass for probably 3 months. I am now back to attending every Sunday. I also attend the pray call on Sundays with Mel and all those who call in.
I will pray for you as I do all who suffer from this. But please until you feel able to attend mass again, continue to pray and at least join the prayer call. Although I always felt I had a close relationship with our Lord, this cross we are carrying helped my love for Him to grow and my faith in Him to strengthen. Truly, I am not sure if I would have made it this far without prayer. Our God is a big part of the "Sum of the Parts".
Like Marie said, I have felt He has led me to Mel's site as well all the people who have crossed my life and are helping me in different ways to overcome this illness.
As for your parents, just do the best you can and forgive them as Jesus forgave those who crucified him "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do".
