Hi Peter and Laura,

I wanted to chime in on this one because I've been very close friends with worry over the years. I read something recently that's really helped me. Can't remember where I read it, but I've tried this and have had positive results.

The premise is that if you find yourself in a full blown worry fest it's very hard to turn it around to its polar opposite of positivity at that time. The suggestion was to not try to do this but to just find a way to shut down...just to go back to dead center...back to neutral and just try to think of nothing...get relaxed. Many people meditate to do this...but I've found that if I'm in a place of anxious worry, that's also hard to do.

One suggestion was music...and...depending on what you're listening to, that can be helpful. The thing that's helped me the most is meditation music. You can find all kinds of meditation / relaxation music on Youtube...totally free. My favorites are the ones that have bi-neural beats...just do a search on Youtube with those words and all kinds of stuff will pop up. That type of music can help shut down the worry loop. Once that gets shut down, then it's so much easier to work on going into a positive direction...like you said Peter..."...create an image of the outcome they would rather have."

Peter,
Thank you for the "Summary" on worry. I find it important to understand our fears are legitimate but do not necessarily mirror reality. I did a little research on "fear" and wanted to share these with the community.

“Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself”: FDR’s First Inaugural Address.

Matthew 14:27
But Jesus immediately said to them, “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
The promise: Jesus gives us courage. Our courage to face fear doesn’t come from inside of ourselves; it is something we have access to because of Jesus’ presence in our lives.

I am beginning to realize the importance of overcoming fear and spending more time on looking to a positive future. A future where I am holding my beautiful grandchildren and hugging my amazing children. (ALL BLESSINGS from GOD our Father; AMEN!)

In Christ Love,
Laura

Hello Folks

According to Dr. Martin Rossman, author of “The Worry Solution.”

SUMMARY

1.Worry is one of the most common causes of suffering in America. It’s also a contributing factor for overeating, alcoholism, smoking, drug abuse and many other compulsive disorders.

2.Imagery is the natural language of your brain, which is in part why guided imagery exercises are so powerful for changing thoughts and behavior.

3.Learning to shut your imagination off, and then using your imagination on purpose is important because the default setting is to look for problems and dangers.

LEARN

"Your fears are legitimate, but they do not necessarily mirror reality, and this is an important distinction to make."

“It’s only a fear. It doesn’t mean that’s what’s going to happen." Teach people how to create an image of the outcome they would rather have. It might be an image of them five or 10 years down the line, enjoying their grandchildren or seeing that they’re healthy and they’re doing the things they love to do.

Very useful,Craig...."thank you!"
