I’ve never smoked but most of us have one kind of an addiction or another (mine is sugar), so I do have a little bit of understanding about the process of breaking an addiction.
I understand Wellbutrin is effective in helping break the neurotransmitter chain involved in addictive behaviors, including smoking. It’s a prescription drug, so you’ll have to go to a doctor to get it, but it may be worth the trouble.
If you’ve heard me on the conference calls and read my posts, you’ll know that I’m really convinced that prescription drugs don’t help a person get well from MD, and that they might even get in the way of making progress toward recovery.
However...this is different. I’ve been on it myself for anxiety...especially when I first got MD...when I was beside myself with worry, as most of us are especially at the beginning before finding answers.
I was even on it for a while with the protocol and it didn’t seem to interfere with my progress...and...it helped calm down my anxieties which was really helpful considering all the stress involved in having this disease.
I’m also convinced that stress is highly detrimental to recovery, so...doing anything we can to decrease stress is important.
