You’re Not Alone: Isaiah 47:4
by Charlotte Travis

The holidays can be hard if we’ve lost a loved one, don’t have close family, or don’t have family as we would like it to be. Christmas began as a tradition to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Now, it’s often described as a time for giving and family, without any mention of Jesus. And that’s the problem. Yes, many will be giving and spending time with family, and that’s wonderful. But if the focus is Christ’s birth, then just look at how healing this can be for those who may be suffering, or short on family as they would want it to be. Isaiah 47:4 speaks of our Savior like this,

"Our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts is His name,
The Holy One of Israel."

Redeemer implies next of kin. Our earthly families may be nonexistent or dysfunctional, but Christ has made a way for us to be part of the greatest family there is - the family of God! And who is this Next of Kin who has the power and wealth to rescue you? He’s the Lord, the self-Existent or Eternal One; Lord of heavenly armies with which no earthly army can compare. “Is His name,” implies the idea of a name that is definite and conspicuous in position and honor. The Name above all names.

So if we allow Christmas to be a time to enjoy the wonder that Christ came to redeem us, it really becomes a refreshing season when hard things take a backseat – overshadowed by the light of His glory. If you are in Christ, you are part of the greatest family there is. Our Next of Kin, our great Redeemer? Now, He’s a family Member we can boast in!

Great is His holy Name!
