Hi Tia,
I sympathize completely. I have had low blood sugary issues for as long as I can remember and what works is to snack frequently throughout the day, "grazing". But not just on any foods. For me, I need to keep the protein intake up or I get shaky and weak. So, I always keep around me left over meat, be it a piece of cold chicken from the batch that I baked at the beginning of the week or a take some egg salad or hard boiled egg with me. If I can't get to something substantial like that, I find that keeping a baggy of almonds and sunflower seeds with me helps. I make mixes of raw almonds and some sunflower seeds that are pre-seasoned in the raw section of my health food store or just salted seeds. Truth be told, I am a cashew nut fan, and I put a few raw cashews in the mix too. They have more fat content, but I think they are more acid forming so we shouldn't eat many of them. Also, sunbutter (without added sugar) on these crackers I found that do not bother me (Artisan nut thins in multiseed or chia seed). And it is satisfying. Dipping celery into the sunbutter also works and less calories. So, I think the key is bringing food with you to work. And, I would tell the boss that you have a blood sugar issue and may need to take quick snack breaks. But, if your diet gets more protein and complex carbs like veggies, that slowly release sugar into your system, your blood sugar should stabilize. I think this is mostly because that gets us off the blood sugar spike and crash cycle that simple carbs cause. But, I eat well and still if physically active even standing for a long time, I need to eat more frequently than anyone I know to get my energy back. And, staying properly hydrated helps me, too.
Most Kind Regards,
Mary
