Nancy,

I read your post and my heart went out to you. Any type of furniture upholstered in fabric can be a tough dilemma with this affliction.

Mary and Adrianne are so right...Kleen Green to the rescue!

Our main sofa in the living area is a large sectional covered in a cotton velveteen fabric. It is the central spot in our home where we, our boys and dogs hang out, watch television, etc. In the beginning it got to the point where although it had no affect on my husband or kids, I could barely sit on it without the itching, stinging, etc. I actually ended up steam cleaning the entire sofa and cushions twice, using Kleen Green instead of the recommended soap solution. After that initial deep clean, once every couple of days I sprinkled it with a combination of DE, baking soda and borax, let that sit for a couple of hours, then vacuumed the sofa and cushions thoroughly. Then I would lightly spray the entire thing with Kleen Green. Completely fixed the problem.

Now I just wash my cushion covers once every 2 weeks, vacuum the sofa twice a week and lightly spray it with Kleen Green every day. Nothing more than that for maintenance. If we didn't have two very spoiled dogs who lounge on the thing for afternoon napping, I'd probably only spray it with Kleen Green every other day or so and wash the cushion covers monthly.

I'm generally a fan of simple, diy, natural ingredient cleaning products and have made my own household cleaning sprays utilizing essential oils, vinegar and other ingredients for years. In fact we don't even have a bottle of Windex in the house. However, I now integrate Kleen Green in with our regular cleaning sprays. It really is a great product.

Wishing you much warmth, success and healing.

P.S. The only furniture-type item I've gotten rid of during this process of cleaning, protocol and healing is a dreadful flokati rug that needed to be put out of its misery long before MD showed up ;) One of my all-time worst interior design choices, but it also was a magnet for MD fibers and impossible to keep clean. I agree with so many on the forum; unless one has toxic mold in the environment or something of that nature, we don't have to rid ourselves of all of our earthly possessions as if this were a cholera outbreak in the 19th century - it really all starts with us getting well inside first and treating the outside bit by bit as we go along.
