I believe we should talk to expedite your restoration!
Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for all the thoughtful and kind replies to my very lenghty post!

From now on, my posts will be a lot shorter, so don’t worry about the effort it will take to read this :-). I will just try to give an update on the past month.

Last month had its ups and downs. On the bright side: I maintained my weight and I am still so much ‘filled out’ than I have ever been. It feels great. A small milestone was that I stood on a ladder for a few hours to clean the paintwork on the outside of the house. And today we celebrated my mum’s birthday with her brother and sister, and I cooked a pretty extravagant Indian dinner for all of us. I couldn’t eat everything of course, but I was so happy that I was able to do it. And everyone said it tasted great :-). Furthermore, we had a few weeks of snow and that doesn’t happen very often anymore in our country. I took a few walks in the snow, it was beautiful! And lastly, the elections are coming up in the Netherlands, and I had no problem reading all the electoral programs. I used to really enjoy following politics, I even started out as a political science major. And it was great to notice that I can enjoy it once again!

There also were some challenges in the past month. The temperature was very volatile in the Netherlands, and my body struggled a bit. It was cold for a few weeks (according to our norms), with snow and ice. And then the temperature rose to 19 degrees celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit I think?) for a few days (way too warm for the time of the year). After that, the temperature dropped again. I just could feel my body working to adjust to it and as a result, I didn’t feel great. Also, the cold impacted my skin, in the sense that it became a lot drier. I am not quite sure if that is a good thing or not, but it was interesting to observe.

Furthermore, I went through a small wave of mentally processing everything that has happened. That occurs every few months or so. I consider it to be a good thing, as I think it is important. But it does mean that a tone of sadness rises to the surface and that can be challenging to go through.

So, overall: I am still working towards getting healthy and I am still hopeful, but some days are just challenging with this disease. The symptoms however are manageable and the skin on my face seems to have improved in the past month. Only now my eyelids seem to go through an aging/peeling process and at times don’t match my age. But I know it is only temporary and a sign of healing, so I am not worried.

To round off, I would like to ask you all the following question. I would like to seek the help of a psychologist to help me process everything that comes with getting this disease, and help me move forward. I just don’t know if it’s possible to find someone who can accept that this disease is not a delusion. Has anyone tried to seek the help of a therapist/psychologist, and how did that go? I am a bit anxious about trying this, but I do think it might help me, on the condition that someone is willing to accept this disease as a physical reality.

I hope everyone is doing as well as possible, and is getting closer to a state of health, step by step.

I wish you all the very best!
