Wow, I had not realized it had been such a long time since I last posted here! I sincerely hope everyone is doing as well as possible and that everyone is inching closer towards healing. As far as my journey goes, I have made some great steps in the last six months! Time has flown by, as I thought I had not posted for just a few months...my mistake :-). @ Chrissie, Karen (the Libarian) and Rockin' Robin: thank you so much for your kind replies and inquiries. @ Karen: those are quite some similarities :-). That's so nice to hear! I hope you still find your work to be as fulfulling. Well, I'll just quickly sum up the past period of time. The biggest things are that I've reconnected with lots of people, had a formal goodbye from my old job and am meeting people regularly again. Just yesterday, I had dinner with two friends who I used to work with. This has given me a great boost, knowing I can do this again. I even went to visit family in Spain (a 3 hour flight). And I have told most of the people (to a greater or lesser extent) what I have been going through. And I have to say, almost everyone has responded very kindly and compasstionately. Overall I am feeling better and better. My mental state in particular is more stable than it has been the past few years. Another big difference is that my cognitive state is really improving, it's almost as if my brain is starting to work properly again :-). I haven't further pursued finding a psychologist, it seems like too much of a long shot. I have however sent an e-mail to a retired psychiatrist who has OCD himself, who has published very compassionate columns about 'controversial' illnesses. Those columns are the reason I thought it was worth a shot to contact him. I laid out my experience and that of so many other people and just asked him if he could think of a way to get a doctor here in the Netherlands to be open to study this disease. Not for myself, but for anyone who will get this disease in the future. He responded very kindly and said it was a very coherent story and that someone would not make this up. So we'll see where that will go. I also talked to a Chinese herbalist who actually knew about this disease from the literature. In that world, Morgellons is considered to be part of the 'Wei syndrome' along with diseases such as MS and ALS. Wei means something like wilting or atrophy. I found it quite interesting to learn that Morgellons is acknowledged in that field of study. Have you guys all seen the recent initiatives on Youtube such as Managing Morgellons? There, a fellow sufferer posts a video every day to raise awareness and as part of an effort to get the CDC to do a new, proper study. They also have a petition at www.managing-morgellons.com . I also found the videos on the Youtube channel Managing Morgellons - Living with Morgellons amazing in very eloquently explaining our situation and our experience. As far as my symptoms go: I almost never have any real itch or stinging feeling anymrore, and my gut health seems to have improved. My face goes through cycles of purging but it seems to be healing further. The skin on my body is a few steps behind, so it seems. But I have faith that it will continue to improve as well. I wish the very best of health, happiness and healing for everyone. And I promise to give an update in 6 weeks again :-). | ||||||
