Hi Jamie,

I have to say...reading your posts make me think about the most idyllic life (minus toxic disease, of course) with living in such a beautiful place (New England) and teaching in a position you love. The joy you provide and receive from interacting with your students is life changing for both of you...what a blessing. As an educator with thirty years of experience myself, I love it when teachers share the positives about our profession...and there are many.

When I read your original post on this thread about where you live, the first thought that popped into my head was the scenery in the old movie "Peyton Place." I'm talking about the original movie...I think it was made in 1957 and filmed in New England. The setting was beautiful, and I remember watching it when I was older and just falling in love with the beauty of the area. Of course...it didn't hurt my overactive imagination any to watch everything though the filter of the perfectly decorated, dressed, and coiffed 1950's either.

So...with that in mind, I imagined you riding a bike through a picturesque small New England town in autumn to your school, and then teaching smart and attentive students...all starched, pressed, and eager to learn. Ok...now I'm all ready to go to Amazon Prime and watch that movie again! I was only a year old when it came out, but I wasn't allowed to watch it until I was pretty old...it was considered really scandalous at the time.

On another and more applicable (and mature) note ...I love the "pronoun replacement" idea from your pastor. I've actually tried that a few times since reading your post, and it's effective. Please keep posting. It does help to reach out and connect in any way with the community...even if it's just to share small things about your life and daily experiences. Often, these small things will lead to bigger questions and ideas that can start new conversations and help others in more ways than might be imagined.

Love,

Karen

P.S. I had to laugh when I ready you are an English teacher. I immediately thought back to any of my past posts with possible dangling prepositions and my obvious over use of my favorite punctuation mark...the ellipsis. So...please overlook any of these things and chalk it up to my being from the South and probably having a genetic propensity to wander into Falkneresque stream of consciousness "speak" even in my writing. Plus...I just like ellipsisis...(I made that plural all on my own) a lot...and...I mean...a LOT.
