Hello, everyone!

I have to truly laugh at myself and my brain fog. If you look at my last post, I never actually finished my teaching story...thus, the lack of a period! I got distracted and forgot to finish my thought! The funny part of the story was that I told my students that I never wanted to hear them use the word “vibe” again! I swear, they all say things like, “The character had such a good “vibe.” What the heck does that mean? (I actually know what it means—to teenagers, “vibe” means “good feeling.”) However, characters don’t have “vibes” in my English teaching world. Now I have officially finished the story!

Thank you, Chrissie, for your response. I’m so glad to hear that you are feeling better! It sounds like you have been through quite an ordeal. I do use coconut oil in my hair, but I tend not to use it every time. My hair is SO fine and thin that the coconut oil is really difficult to wash out. I also use essential oils and a variety of shampoos/conditioners. I have started freezing my head on a daily basis, too. I will say this with a sense of cautious optimism: I have noticed that the scalp crawlies have been reduced, and my hair suddenly appears to have a bit more body. I just keep plugging along. Seriously, if the hair solution is as simple as freezing my head, I will feel like kicking myself for not doing it sooner!

I’d also like to thank Donna/Sneakers...my new “mentor” of sorts. I have spoken with her twice on the phone, and she is SO heaven-sent. We are many states away from each other, yet it feels like she is right next door. We didn’t know each other prior to about a week ago, yet I feel like I have known her forever! Thank you, dearest lady!

I have definitely learned how imperative it is to become involved with the forum. I have learned so much in such a short period of time. It is way more comforting than I ever could have anticipated. Just knowing that I am not alone has alleviated an unhealthy level of fear that I used to experience on a daily basis. When other people start telling you that they think you might just make it to the goal, it goes a really long way to keep me on track.

Today, I was preparing for next week’s lesson plans. One of my classes is a delightful group of 16 honors-level freshman. I just love them—they bring me actual joy, something I thought I would never experience again. They are currently reading “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and I will leave you all with a quote:

At the end of chapter 3, after Scout has had a REALLY rough first day of first grade, she tells her father Atticus that she doesn’t want to go to school anymore, partly because her teacher (Miss Caroline) is young and inexperienced.

Atticus says to her, “First of all, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people could try a little harder to understand those who suffer in this world?

I keep all of you in my prayers.
