I am writing this post to ask for your prayers—not for me—but for my “daughter” Nichole who is in a Florida hospital for what appears to be a stroke. She is in her late thirties. This literally came out of nowhere. The MRI shows that she has lesions on her brain, but they do not know why yet. She was on vacation with her 10-year-old daughter when it happened. She became severely disoriented on two separate occasions (that led to two emergency room visits—she was admitted after the second trip), and now she cannot count or read and various other cognitive functions. The only way she could call me was because I had called and left a message for her: she could push the button, but she could not scroll and find my name in her cell phone contacts. She is otherwise healthy—no visible health problems at all. This literally came out of the blue. Nichole is one of my former students. My ex-husband and I took her in during her senior year because her foster family could no longer care of her. I do not have children of my own (I have stepchildren, but that relationship is different, as some of you know, I imagine), and she is the closest thing to a biological child that I will ever have. Her daughter Claire refers to me as her grandmother. I have been praying. I cannot imagine losing her. She is a rare example of a young woman who was handed an unfortunate hand early on, but she has never let it hold her back. Without parents in her life, she graduated from high school, graduated from college, has a responsible job, and is part of a wonderful family with a husband and daughter and many terrific extended relatives. She has been one of the people in my life who has not judged me through my Morgellons/Lyme battle. Although she does not entirely understand the disease, she has never doubted that I have something. She is such a beautiful person, and the world is an infinitely better place because she is in it. Thank you for any prayers that you might send her way. Jamie S. | |||
