Yea!!!! You're getting a week off!!! Only educators realize how desperately those off days are needed. I hope you give yourself plenty of time to rest and to just do nothing at all. Hopefully you'll find your retirement to be better than expected when you go to the retirement workshop on Monday. You've paid your dues with a lot of years in...I'll bet your annuity turns out to be better than you think. Just imagine..by this time next year, you could be enjoying spring minus huge work responsibilities! I'll bet you'll also have regained your health by then too when you have the time to focus on yourself. I know it's hard to leave something you love so much, but here's another thing to think about. Just because you're retiring from a full time teaching job doesn't mean you'll have to be completely out of the game or without earning power. You still have a lot of life ahead of you and once you get your health back, there are all kinds of options out there you might enjoy. You would probably be a sought after tutor with your skills as a high school English teacher...I'm thinking SAT or ACT prep. That way you'd still get to enjoy teaching but without all the red tape and politics of public education. You'd get to actually teach! Have you ever heard of the site called, "Teachers Pay Teachers?" It's a site where teachers sell things they've developed for other teachers to buy. I'm sure you've come up with all kinds of teaching ideas / strategies / etc. you've put together. That kind of goes with the territory after so many years in the biz. If you haven't already, you might want to take a look at the site. You don't have to invest. You just upload the materials you've created and those who purchase them can download and print. I have several things I'd like to put on the site, but...time is the factor for me right now. I'm thinking I'll submit some things after I retire (in about two years) and have some time to polish up the details. I've heard that some teachers do pretty well with it. One of the ideas behind it is that teachers will pay up to $25 out of pocket to get something they feel they need. I know that's true! I've spent a fortune over the years out of pocket to get things I wanted right then for teaching. It was just easier for me to go out and buy something than to find a bid vendor, write a requisition, get purchase order, and THEN have to order it and wait for it to come in. That was just so much trouble I only did it if I needed a big ticket item. Most teachers feel this way and will happily buy something they can download and print right away. You have so many wonderful options ahead...AND...you'll really be able to enjoy all of them when you start feeling great again! Love, Karen | ||||||
