I finally have some news about my current student Nichole, although it is unfortunately not good.
This morning (Friday), Nichole appeared in my classroom before the first period class. She had been to an eye doctor and an eye surgeon yesterday because she suddenly went completely blind in one eye.
It happened without warning, and the eye surgeon told her that he suspects MS after evaluating her emergency MRI (which could very well explain the systemic health issues she is having: severe gastrointestinal issues, terrible skin rashes, a complete inability to lose weight despite eating practically nothing for the past two months, hormonal & reproductive issues, depression, and now blindness). I was floored. The doctor also told her that she might not regain her eyesight. She’s only 18. I feel so badly for her.
She still has a GI appointment next week to address the original issue that has had her so ill for this past two months. Hopefully, he can shed some light on whether or not MS is the likely culprit.
She is a month shy of graduation. She has earned A grades through all of this.
Please send special prayers her way.
