Lets discuss WHY in your next coaching session
Hello, everyone!

As many of you know, I am back to school.

The first two days of teaching (as opposed to professional development) have been smooth sailing.

My honors sophomores will, no doubt, be delightful. I taught a few of them last year when they were freshmen.

I have two sections of College & Career Readiness as well, a brand new course for me. What a delightful surprise it has been. Most of the students are post-graduates who have come to my school for an extra year of high school so that they can boost their GPAs and qualify for better schools in the college basketball circuit. All of these boys (29 of them) are from inner cities all across America. They tower over me, well over six feet tall!

On the first day, when there were only freshmen and transfer students present, the head of our guidance department was scrambling to get all 29 of them scheduled for the next day. He had no where to put them while they waited. He knew I didn’t have freshmen, so at the beginning of the day, he sheepishly asked, “Can you please entertain them for TWO HOURS?” I told him that he would owe me, BIG TIME!

They herded in my room. I asked each of them their names and where they are from. I entertained them with stories of my experiences in most of those cities or at least states. I answered all of their questions about the school. I made fun of northeastern Connecticut (where my school is located), an area I affectionately refer to as “cow country,” and told them that I hoped that they wouldn’t be too bored on the weekends since they come from places that offer a lot more excitement!

Yesterday, on the first day of class, they all ended up in my two classes. One of the boys entered the room, walked up to me, and said, “We all decided at basketball practice last night that you are pretty cool.” What a sweet thing to say!

I guess I will be going to A LOT of basketball games this year. Many of them will go own to play for really prestigious college programs, and I will probably see some of them on television since my husband forces me to watch every UNC game because he is originally from the Raleigh area. One of my boys from North Carolina was REALLY excited to hear that I like his favorite team and that I know a lot more about basketball than any of them expected!

I have had a bit of a spike in my symptoms, but that is to be expected since my day now begins at 5 am. There will be an adjustment period. However, I am having some occasional odd seizures in my legs that always occur first thing in the morning, and they leave me a bit wobbly for a few minutes. I would love to know if any of you have experienced anything like that. My legs and feet often hurt in the morning as well, like something has bruised them. I’m a year into the protocol, and this is a new symptom. Mel and I are trying to address it with Vitamin D and Magnifical, but I would like to understand WHY it is happening.

I have to teach in about a half hour, so I will sign off now. I will try to send positive updates like this one every so often when I have awesome interactions with my kiddos!

I keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
