Today, after school, I attended a birthday party for one of my students (one of the basketball players, of course!) who is from the Bahamas. One of my English colleagues is also a dorm parent, and she is a second mother to so many of the boarding students and makes sure that their birthdays are celebrated since they are far away from family on their special days. When the birthday boy walked in, he wasn’t expecting me to be there, and it made my day when his face lit up when he saw that I had come to his party instead of going straight home from work! He was grinning from ear to ear! When he arrived at our school, he literally came with the clothes on his back...that is all. That was remedied VERY quickly! Fortunately, all of his family members in the Bahamas made it through the hurricane. It was another one of the many moments recently when I have felt almost normal. However, I couldn’t eat most of what was served, but I kept myself from salivating over the birthday cake by doing the dishes! I’m staying very positive, despite the string of awful migraines I have experienced lately. I think they wouldn’t bother me nearly as much if they didn’t wake me up EVERY SINGLE TIME on a school night in the middle of the night! I have suffered from migraines my entire adult life, but they have been just awful the past three years. Lately, I have been getting headaches about three nights a week. Maybe I’m just detoxing like crazy! I think if I could eliminate just one of my health issues, it would be the migraines. They are, by far, the most painful symptom and the most difficult to regulate most of the time. I keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers! We will all get to that finish line eventually!
