I am more than happy to discuss our tummy troubles! Please have Mel give you my phone number, and we can figure out a time to chat around both of our work schedules. You and I have both been around for a while now, so it is time to have an actual phone conversation! :) I would have been quite upset if my GI doctor dismissed me like your doctor dismissed you. That is NOT acceptable. It is amazing how much the average GI doctor does not appear to know or cannot explain. After all, stomach issues have been around since the dawn of time! [I like to envision an ancient cavemen with gallstones writhing around on the floor of his caves after he tried to digest a big fat piece of woolly mammoth meat!] You would think they would know more, but that has not been the case in my experience, except with my current doctor and John B’s contacts. I think a person has to search and search until a GI doctor will listen and dedicate him/herself to finding out the root cause of a person’s stomach issues. I am not throwing up like you are. I have a cough that comes and goes, difficulty swallowing that comes and goes, and mild choking that comes and goes. Sometimes, I get stomach cramps. Sometimes, I get constipated, and other times, food runs right through me. It has been like that for me since early childhood. I have a terrible memory of going to Pizza Hut during adolescence. I did not know I had celiac disease then. When I left the restaurant to walk back to my church, I had to make a detour into the woods because I could not make it to the bathroom. I found out a practical use for a leaf that day. I have countless other horror stories like that one, too, when my stomach decided to make finding a restroom a true emergency! At least I can laugh about it; what else is there to do, really? I am actually beginning to wonder if my stomach issues are being caused by LOW acid, not high acid levels. I have no gall bladder, type A blood, and celiac disease. All of those issues leave me ESPECIALLY vulnerable (according to articles I have been reading) to having LOW levels of acid, not high. I need to ask my doctor if BOTH low and high acid levels would cause a malfunction in the esophageal valve. It will mean the difference between a surgery or a few supplements. I am going to make darn sure that I do not have a surgery until I know that answer, and there are tests for the specific levels of stomach acid. As far as bile reflux is concerned, my GI doctor told me that my bile is flowing onto my stomach instead of going in the direction it is supposed to. According to my understanding of what he said, my colon is getting somewhat impacted about every six months. He said that my bile is thus being rerouted to a place it should not be. I am unsure as to how that might be fixed at this time. Once I get the acid issue resolved, I am going to be my relentless, stubborn self and make sure I get a better explanation and a plan to stop that from happening. Just keep at your doctor, and if he cannot give you a satisfactory answer, I would try to find someone else if you can. I would also speak with John B. if you have not already. His GI contacts have been quite helpful. They are actually trying to find a doctor in Boston who can do the LYNX procedure, and they are under no obligation to help me at all. I am grateful for the help John and his associates have given me. They may be able to help you as well. It seems as though there are a number of us who have very similar issues. I’m sure there are many people around the world who have GI issues that are “mysterious” yet dramatically hinder their overall health. Anna has also been quite helpful to me. She is the queen of research and smart as a whip. Mel has also been quite helpful and was the one who suggested that I speak with John B. in the first place. I admire you greatly, Linda. You work hard. You have a teenager to care for, even though you are sick with the most dreadful disease on the planet. Mackenzie is SO lucky to have you, and we are all lucky to know a person such as yourself. Again, please feel free to give me a call. I am sure Mel will be happy to give you my phone number. Take good care of yourself, Linda! I will say special prayers for you, that God will guide you to the right doctors. Jamie | |||
