I used to doll myself up like Marilyn Monroe, but have adjusted to not using much make up most of the time.
Mascara makes me look more presentable so I bought disposable wands on Amazon (this disagrees with the environmentalist in me however), and also some eyeliner brushes that are disposable. These are sold mainly to makeup artists.
I think basically, you want to NOT use applicators that you use on your skin and then dip back into the makeup, I’m not overzealous about the fear of contamination element of the condition (in my experience internal treatment is the solution), but I think the makeup application is an important thing when you’re in an acute phase. Q-tips are helpful too.
Josie Maran and Tarte are too excellent companies that avoid harmful ingredients. But always look at the ingredients because a lot of people are marketing their products as “green,” when they are really not. A lot of natural lip balms incorporate items such as clove and peppermint so those are fine.
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a great resource to study about harmful ingredients in our products.
I also believe in trying to minimize products that we use altogether (hard with this condition I know); everything we use makes our bodies work and a lot of products are unnecessary – a more psychological thing.
Also, if you have the time and resources, there is a website called Wellness Mama where you can learn about making your own natural forms of makeup, deodorant and other body products. I want to do this, but haven’t had the time lately!
