Hi, Leigha!

Funny, I was just thinking that I needed to send you a post, and you beat me to it!

Well, I am afraid I don’t have the news you would probably like to hear, but hopefully what I do have to say will be informative.

I did a pretty stupid thing about a month ago. I didn’t think it was a stupid thing at the time, but now I do. I decided to add blond highlights to my hair, thinking that it might give my hair a volume boost. Well, it didn’t really help in that department, and it has only made my hair more difficult to detangle. The texture feels worse, too. I didn’t have a bad reaction to the salon-grade highlights (I go to a really excellent hairdresser—my former student), but I probably should have just left it alone. I won’t be doing that again—ever. I know you didn’t ask about that, but I thought I’d pass along that little bit of wisdom.

You should ONLY use the Sovereign Silver brand of silver. Most people order it direct from the company because of the discount. I can get Sovereign Silver at Vitamin World (10 minutes from my house), and they honor the forum discount...it is one of their policies. Even the salesperson at Vitamin World told me that this brand of silver is the creme de la creme of liquid silver on the market. It’s summer, and I do not want the silver to sit in the heat in my mailbox until I retrieve it, so I alternate between ordering it directly and getting it locally. Mel is absolutely correct, as he always is about purchasing ONLY that particular brand.

About the hair products. I have come to the conclusion based on three years of dealing with biofilm wrapped around the shaft of every single hair on my head. I feel confident that no shampoo on this earth will actually chase the biofilm away. That is exclusively an INTERNAL process. Recently, I spoke to Donna (who you know has now recovered). She told me that when she was finally well, her hair restored itself—almost miraculously—and she didn’t even need to grow out her entire head of hair! Her hair has completely returned to its prior state.

I think that shampoos do one of the following:

#1: Make my hair feel worse
I have learned to only buy trial sizes, if possible, or ask my hairdresser if I can sample a product before I buy it. I have also returned a lot of shampoos that displeased me. Keep your receipts!

#2: Doesn’t appear to hurt or harm my hair
My advice with #1 applies to #2.

#3: Makes my hair feel slightly better
I have kept these shampoos. I do like Natural Ginesis and the silver shampoo I purchased from Barr, but I have SUPER fine hair (after losing a lot of what I had and three years of biofilm damage), and those shampoos are a bit harsh for my hair type on a daily basis, so I use them several times a week. Other people, however, absolutely LOVE Natural Ginesis, so I definitely think it is worth a shot for you. Right now I am using a shampoo for thinning hair because my hair is going through a rough patch right now, probably because I have had some significant abdominal issues lately. I have noticed that how I feel directly corresponds to how my hair behaves.

My hair was the first SIGNIFICANT indication of Morgellons for me. I imagine it will be the LAST part of my body to get better. Like I have said before, hair is disposable, and the body knows it. The body ALWAYS protects vital organs first.

When I am in the shower, I always pour a freezing cold bottle of water on my head. It’s easier to do this in the summer, of course, but Mel swears by it. It’s his belief that the critters don’t like the cold. I do know that washing with water that is not steaming hot and rinsing with cold water is REALLY good for your hair. My hairdresser has confirmed that approach. Mel learned that during his modeling days, I believe, and I think he still does the cold water therapy on his head even today. That is DEFINITELY worth a shot. Other people on the forum have had good luck with the cold water treatment, too. You get used to it. In some ways, it is refreshing.

One last piece of advice. I don’t know about you, but I had a tendency to be too focused on my looks before I because sick. I think back to how much I used to fixate on how my hair looked and how I allowed my appearance to dictate too much of my self-esteem. I think one of the MANY positive lessons that Morgellons and Lyme has taught me is that vanity has a dark side. It keeps a person from focusing on what is truly important in life. Although I can’t say I am enjoying the way that God is teaching me this lesson through the virtual destruction of my hair, it’s a good lesson to learn, even though it feels SO painful some days. I absolutely hate the daily “deflation” I feel when I try so hard to make my hair look nice, and it is never the way I want it to be. Then I remember the following:

#1: I will eventually be better, and my hair will restore itself.

#2: I could be bald, and I am not.

#3: Even if I were bald, there are a lot of pretty awesome wigs out there. I wore a clip-in hairpiece for about six months (when my hair was at its absolute worse a few years ago), and every single person in my life (including my high school students—who actually were the MOST supportive!) was positive and never said a single nasty remark to me.

#4: There are so many worse scenarios with this disease.

#5: God, my family, and my true friends love me no matter what I look like.

Feel free to reach out any time you need to, even if you just need a pep talk. Trust me...I need them on a regular basis!
