Mel asked me to submit my story about Val, my daughter's dog and future stories about her, so they could be added to the Funny farm stories and pictures. My daughter, Natalie, told her fiance Nick, she wanted a small lap dog. She had one growing up, a chihuahua, named Pikachu and she loved him dearly. Nick unfortunately, immediately said no! He exclaimed, "Dogs poop, you have to exercise them, and they require a lot of care." However, my daughter kept after him, kept asking, and finally told him, " When we buy the house, I'm getting a dog!!" So, a year later, they bought a house. And she began in earnest to ask for the dog. So.... One afternoon he shows up with a surprise!! You guessed it - a puppy!! Natalie is thrilled!! He is so cute!! 2 months old!! But, she realizes this puppy is a lot bigger than a chihuahua puppy. So...she asked Nick what kind of dog is she? And Nick says a Great Dane!! Little did my daughter know how big Great Danes actually get. After several days of research, she is a little put out with Nick. Especially when she found out he paid $1300.00 dollars for her!! She told him, "I wanted a lap dog!! I wanted to rescue a dog at the pound and it would have been basically free!! A small dog could run around in the house and get exercise! It wouldn't eat much!! This dog is going to be as big as a small, horse!! It will have to be walked and you work all the time on long shifts!! I will be the one walking her outside and it is going to cost a fortune to feed her!! Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the fact that you got me a dog, and I'm already fond of her, but Geez Louise, couldn't you have asked me what I wanted!". I told my daughter, he bought a man's dog! And so...Val is the new addition to their family. The puppy was already named Valkerie when Nick got her. They call her Val. She is beautiful!! My daughter is constantly telling me stories of what Val is up to or what she has destroyed! She is growing big alarmingly fast as you will see from the pictures! When I went to visit, she was 4 months and could stand up against the kitchen counter with her head clearly on it. Since then, she now stands up against the bar in front of the kitchen counter, with her head higher than it. The bar is 10 to 12 inches taller than the kitchen counter. She can get anything on any counter, dresser, bar, etc.... Yes, they are working and training her, but she is still a puppy! The unbelievable thing is she is 6 months old now and Great Danes are not fully grown until they are 2 yrs. old!! Its a frightning thought!! While I was there and we were eating at the table, Val stood up at the stove and took food that we had set in the middle at the very back of the stove - no problem for her!! I truly believe when she is full grown she may be able to reach stuff on top of the ice box!! Well, this is the story I shared on a conference call and will now be in the Funny farm thread. Sending pictures of Val at different stages, from 2 months to 6 months. Hope you enjoy the story!! Love and hugs, Rockin Robin | ||||||
